Corsets and Pan Thai

I checked out the World Food Festival in the East Village this weekend.  It was a lot of fun and I was happy to see a lot of people there.  The have $1 tastes at each both so that way you can try a little bit of everything.  My favorite was the korma at the Taste of India and the bar-b-q chicken on a stick at the Oriental Food Store booth.

While I was enjoying the food I also got to check out a lot of my favorite shops also. I finally stop by Plain Talk the used book store that opened this year.  It was a very nice store and the staff was very friendly.  I'm still pretty bummed about East Village Books closing their doors.  It was such a beautiful store and I really enjoyed the different events and speakers that they had.  It was a tough year for a lot of businesses I guess and I hope that they find some more funding.

I also stopped by The Fleur Cinema and watched The Duchess.  It's a very well done costume drama...I loved the costumes.   I have heard that there is some Oscar buzz which I think is well deserved (unlike Atonement from last year but I'm not going to go there).  It made we really glad things have come along way.  Although after reading that Princess Diana is her great great granddaughter, one can't help but find a few common threads - although one would hope that Charles isn't as evil as the Duke.

Sherman Hill Tour of Homes

It was that time again this weekend....the annual tour of homes in Sherman Hills.  My sister and I go every year and every year we have a blast.  I love seeing how people have their homes decorated and I just like old homes in general.  With all the town homes and condos that are popping up, it makes one really miss when homes were truly unique and not just cookie cutter images of their neighbors.  If you're in the Des Moines area, I strongly recommend checking it out.
